Jamaica Plain Residence
This 3,500 SF house is located on a wooded site in Jamaica Plan, Massachusetts, within Boston’s city limits.
A central gallery space at the entry becomes the organizational spine and central element of the project. From this central space, two twenty-foot wide gable-roofed forms are linked and offset, each positioned to take advantage of the site’s sloping grades, views, and solar orientation. The Great Room, Kitchen, and Breakfast Room occupy one of these gabled masses, while “private spaces” (Bedrooms and Guest Rooms) occupy the second.
By organizing the program into smaller, more distinct masses, the apparent scale of the home is visually reduced - in keeping with the character of the surrounding neighborhood.
