21st Street Residence
This three story San Francisco home was essentially a giant jigsaw puzzle for Blank and Cables. In order to install this mild steel, transparent glass and reclaimed wood staircase, we needed to build our own steel crane inside the house to lift the heavy stringers used in the final construction into place. Each piece was dependent upon the correct placement of the prior piece, which meant that we had to have our layout the exact which took several days to ensure a successful installation. The reclaimed wood treads and handrail caps, glass guardrails and steel fixtures combine traditional materials with modern design features to create an elegantly simple stair way that ties together the multiple levels of this San Francisco home.
