Chalkboard paint is one of the hottest design trends of the year, and also happens to be one of the most convenient and stylish ways to turn your walls into a personal memo board. James Young and the I Hate My Kitchen crew splashed the back wall of this cottage-inspired kitchen from Blog Cabin 2011 with chalkboard paint and made it the perfect place to write down to-do lists, chores, recipes and inspirational quotes or notes.

White + Purple + Black Expansive windows drench this cool-hued kitchen with sunlight, keeping it from become a dreary, cavernous space. Instead, the purple walls and black cabinets mingle happily with white, stainless steel, and glass to create a room with a fresh attitude. Stainless-steel hardware adds sparkle throughout.

Q

Photo

Butter + Citron + Black Yellow plus green often equals tropical heat, but when you add iridescent glass mosaic tiles, stainless steel, polished black granite, and brass to the mix, you get exotic. A charcoal-gray island topped with stainless steel anchors the room.

How the kitchen opens into the living room and the wood floors. All the colors just meld together so nicely.

A wall of 8"x8" encaustic cement tiles from Architerra Studios adds a graphic element to the kitchen's design.

I like the layout, the seating area across from the kitchen. The colors and those lights above the kitchen counter are so pretty.

Q

Over-the-Door Storage Don't overlook that extra space above your kitchen's doorway. Hang a shelf above the door and use it to store pretty china or serving pieces you use only occasionally.

Q

Make Wicker-Basket Drawers For an unexpected and functional break in a wall of cabinetry, remove the doors and let wicker baskets substitute for drawers. Choose matching baskets and use them to store anything from linens to root vegetables.

Q

Clean & Organized Keep your cleaning supplies organized and ready to work with an over-the-door metal caddy like this one.

Q

Love the little sitting area off the kitchen instead of a dining table.

OMG - Here is my future kitchen. The round window, the black, green and white colors, those wooden planks across the ceiling and a green door into ... I will have to wait and see!

Good idea for a small kitchen pantry area.

I like everything about this kitchen - the color of the cabinets, the black accents, the cafe curtains, lighting, and the floor is very pretty!
