I use the slim folding one from the container store. I've had it for several years & never once has mine collapsed. It's a life saver & doesn't take much space: http://www.containerstore.com/shop/laundry/stepStoolsLadders?productId=10000796&N=77010

Check out The Container Store on line. They have an ultra thin step stool-folds to 1.25" for compact storage. It sells for $24.99.

Pot lid storage . Account for lid storage. Having to store pot lids can be a nightmare. There are many ways to solve this problem, but my favorite is to create a divider in a pullout drawer, as shown in this photo.

How to Add Toe Kick Drawers for More Storage

Q

Toe kick drawers

Q

: Extra-deep drawers are great for storing dishes, pots and pans. I also try to fit as many wide (36-inch) cabinets in as I can, because these can hold all manner of items yet still be within easy reach.

Q

The minimum recommended kitchen aisle width is 42 inches. More comfortable, and the minimum I tend to design to, is 48 inches. If you live in a multicook household, I recommend upping that to 52 or 54 inches.

Touch-activated faucets. With a sharp, deep sink, let’s make it even easier to use by adding a touch-activated faucet.

Deep sink. While a fridge can sometimes be too big, I’m not sure the same can be said about a kitchen sink. Typical sinks are often around 8 inches deep, but a sink that is 10 inches deep or more (especially a wide one) makes for luxurious ease of use. Being able to easily fit a large pot fully inside the sink for filling or cleaning is very practical. Plus, if you do leave an item or two in the sink to be cleaned later (sitting on top of a perfectly fitted metal sink grate, of course), they won’t be visible in your seemingly bottomless sink.
