This is a favorite design with the large open face (gas log) fireplace flush to the floor and the contrasting white mantel. The surround in the pic is metal. See this less expensive substitute, a 5'x10' tile that has the look of oxidized metal: http://crossvilleinc.com/products/oxide/moro-5/ . The hearth is the same white material (limestone? consider match with exterior stone). Consider side wall painted a complementary color in place of wood? We will have a flat screen above the mantel so will need to house some components maybe in furniture piece to the side.

A closer view of the mantel.

A more linear firebox (50x30?); slightly raised; with a metal surround. However here the windows are an important feature.

A 2nd view.

Isokern 46: Plans call for this model which is gas log; open box; and measures 47"W, 42"H, 20"D, 37"W at the back of the firebox. The box will start aprox. 3" from the floor with the stone heart flush with the floor.

Nice design; Rumford firebox.

Q

Large flush to floor firebox.

Q

Slightly elevated, square, firebox also is a good design. Copper surround would be $$$$, but see tile substitute.

Q

A more linear box could look similar.

Q

Photo

Nice look (have a sample of this surround tile), but probably doesn't fit our look.

Q

Photo

If we wanted a more linear fireplace look. Seems too small given the room and wall size.

Q

This was the inspiration for the fireplace in the first 3D Model of the house. Have since decided against the inverted L feature as it seemed to distract from the lines of room.

Concrete mantel.

Linear design could be an option, but leaning towards an open firebox with a gas log. This is a concrete veneer. Add a flat screen over fireplace; don't need the shelving; like the lower ledge.

Q

Photo

Good linear design with the addition of the hearth.

Q

Interesting design with hearth and shelves.

Flush box; need mantel to protect flatscreen.

A larger-format tile (5'x10' Crossville) would avoid the "tile look".

Cor-ten steel surround.

Q

Nice contrast with travertine surround and dark firebox.

Q

Linear look.

Q

Too much tile.

Crossville tile surround to have a similar color-finish.

Crossville tile surround to have a similar color-finish.

Q

Nice color surround; don't like the box.

Q

Large flush to floor firebox

Q

Photo

Box seems too small for the surround.

Q

Photo

Flat screen appears too large.

Q

Photo

Don't necessarily want a stone surround, and the flat screen seems misplaced; fireplace too small; but we will have a similar view.
