Why did you chose to use this type of material in so many places in the house (the dining room, child’s room wallpaper and staircase wall? Who is the manufacturer and what are they made of? The husband is a mathematician/geneticist/cardiologist and the wife is a financial analyst so their overall aesthetic is more geometric and linear. Also, the clients don’t care for framed artwork and prefer more sculptural wall decoration. The dining room installation is from ModularArts, the wallpaper in the nursery is from Schumacher, the hexagonal shelves are from Land of Nod, and the staircase wall tiles are from Inhabit Living. How is it installed? Is it more expensive than a flat material? What are some considerations consumers should think about in terms of installation, up keep? They were all installed differently. The ModularArts blocks had to be framed in and installed professionally by a finish carpenter and painted in place. The staircase tiles were also installed by a carpenter and sprayed with paint after installation. You could do the Inhabit Living tiles as a DIY project if you are patient and careful. As far as upkeep goes, a 3D feature will need regular dusting to ke...

Hi…I love this tile too!!! This is a stocked tile with Decorative Materials (Idole and there are two colors it comes in) and the one in this picture is called Idole Grey Tear with the matching field tile (12"x24"). It is a ceramic tile with clay base which is suitable for walls, interior dry and wet applications. I hope this helps and have a great day!

We sourced the backsplash from Geologica in the Boston Design Center. Unfortunately this showroom has moved. We suggest bringing this image to your local tile showroom and they can help you select a similar product. Good luck! The backsplash is a 3D through-body porcelain 12x12” tile by Geologica. I ran a tile showroom in Boston that carried this line, one of my favorites and fairly inexpensive. The showroom closed but the manufacturer still has US dealers. Let me know if you need help finding a source but you could try searching for dealers in your area through the website…. www.geologicausa.com

Why did you chose to use this type of material? Who is the manufacturer and what’s it made of? At Ohashi Design Studio, we approach material selection as an integral part of the design process. We treat every architectural material as an element in a composition, like the composition of a painting. When we select palettes, we consider colors, textures, and shadows–and we think about how each material ends, turns a corner, or intersects with other materials. We choose some materials to “speak” louder than others, and some to play supporting roles. 3-D tiles generally speak loudly. They pop. They move. They surprise. We choose 3-D tiles when we want to create visual or sensory variation. Tiles are tessellations. 3-D tiles enable us as architects to create a topography. As the tiles repeat, we can almost create a visual echo. For our Marina Boulevard project, we used a metal wall tile. The tile is Shogun Bronze by Solistone, distributed by Spec Stone in San Francisco. For our Rockridge project, we used a puzzle-shaped tile in the master shower, which is the Clodagh Collection Field Tile by Ann Sacks. How is it installed? Is it more expensive than a flat material? What are som...

The kitchen is glossy and modern, but off-set by the rough concrete block wall pattern on the interior wall. The block wall is replicated from the existing exterior concrete block wall to bring the outdoor inside.
