I have 8' ceilings and wanted my cabs to go all the way up to maximize storage. My cabinet shop guy said No Way because there wasn't room atop 42" cabs for a crown molding, and "You Have to Have a Crown Molding!" No you don't! Just make sure your ceiling isn't too wonky or your doors may rub. But that is less likely with inset doors than frameless cabs like mine.
