Hello ds3591, Since your dining room space is in the area where the large closet is, and you mentioned a doorway there would be awkward, it might not be with a 5' or greater opening. It really allows for a total shifting of the kitchen, which I feel is what you want. It gives you the space to create a U-shaped kitchen with a working triangle, a full size DW, a larger sink (the floor/wall drain can stay where it is - longer drain and water lines can be used (done this many times)), easier access to the kitchen from the front door, a more intimate living area space, a centered ceiling fan and better airflow oveall, and more countertop space. Your uppers will be frig depth above frig and 12" everywhere else. And you can get your 30" range. You gain an enormous amount of upper and lower cabinet/pantry storage since you love to cook. And you would not have to change any flooring, just simply add a threshold of your choosing where the opening is cut. I would not cut it all the way to the ceiling, but leave a 10-11" header so you won't have to patch up the ceiling. Karen

Sleek chairs. Swapping out bulkier pieces for slender, leggy chairs in leather, chrome and plastic can change the whole look of a dining room, kitchen or breakfast nook. Forgoing the slipcovers, thick cushions and rolled arms doesn't have to mean sacrificing comfort — ergonomic shapes, high-tech materials and slim padded seats offer a surprisingly comfy alternative.

Wall-mounted storage. Have a slender bit of blank wall? Don’t just hang up a calendar or artwork — make the most of the available space by mounting rows of racks on the wall from floor to ceiling. Drape towels over a bar, use S-hooks to hang kitchen tools and install a magnetic knife rack.
