Yes, I have contacted a local senior citizens group with pro bono attorneys. I have not had much luck with getting estimates for the re-do that was done incorrectly. Reinstalling the quartz is the biggest expense. Even though I have had contact, on more than one occasion, with this contractor his ideas are to alter the existing cabinets. Never to do it right. He has said that he will not do anything but do what I mistakenly agreed to by making the drawers smaller and fixing the quartz, NOT to replace it. I did not realize his fix would not help the look of the kitchen, it only helps the drawers to open. To replace the quartz will mean new cabinets in his estimation, which he has refused to do. Fixing the cracking quartz does not help our kitchen and it would be difficult in a resale. The value of our mobile home has just gone down and the drawers he wants to make smaller were $1,000 extra from his original bid. There was no beginning or end time on our contract. I believe time is running out for us as the complaint form from contractor state license board asks for other estimates to correct or complete the project. Like I said there were no complaints and the contractor is well know in the area and we put our complete trust in his knowledge and expertise. I have tried to locate a local TV station without much luck. Us seniors have some issues with web searching. At least this senior does. More fun to look at Great Grand baby photos.

It's really hard to admit this to yourself, but at some point your ability to effectively fight for your own interests diminishes. And this happens so gradually that most people don't notice. That's why we have elder protection laws in California. And that's why we have both non-profits and government organizations that look out for the elderly. I strongly feel that you are being taking advantage of and you don't even realize just how much. Make sure you find all of the resources that are available to you. You really shouldn't be negotiating any of these issues yourself. You need an experienced lawyer or government agent to do that on your behalf.

I agree with what M said 1000 percent. I am operating under the assumption you are reaching out to lawyers, elder abuse authorities, in California we have Adult Protective Services http://www.cdss.ca.gov/adult-protective-services , they may be able to direct you. I know you have reached out to the media already. Here is a link to the Chapman School of Law clinic for elder abuse. They work in Orange County, but they may be able to direct you to a lawyer who worked with them as a student and may take this case on. https://www.chapman.edu/law/legal-clinics/elder-law.aspx

When I search that name a business comes up in Simi Valley but it is permanently closed. When I search their licenses the good new is that they have current insurance and bond. https://www2.cslb.ca.gov/onlineservices/CheckLicenseII/LicenseDetail.aspx?LicNum=397582 But they are licensed as having no employees even though it specifically states on their website that they have 10. Call his bond company: WESTERN SURETY COMPANY 101 S REID STREET SUITE 300 SIOUX FALLS, SD 57103-7046 (800) 331-6053 His policy number is: 63279473 A Contractors bond is in place to protect the consumer in case the contractor damages you property (TV, Piano, Deck Ect.) It is also in place if he doesn't complete the project or pay for permits. His policy is for $15,000 so you should be able to recoup a lot of your losses. I am not studied in California building code but I know it is one of the strictest in the states. I would assume that they require a permit for electrical changes required in installing a range. You can easily see if this was done by searching you address at the county code department to see what recent permits have been pulled. Also the job is not completed because the counter top installed is faulty material, therefore he has walked away from the job unfinished. You should be able to receive a full reimbursement for the counter top material and installation.

Hello. Glad you shared his info,so I was able to do a little investgation to hopefully help get info to know what you are dealing with. I am having a hard time finding an active license on him. If someone actually has the number, please share for the OP. I found old info on CA license lookup, but seems not valid now or expired?https://www2.cslb.ca.gov/onlineservices/CheckLicenseII/PersonnelLicenseList.aspx?SeqNumber=969712&PersName=RAMSAY+ONE The other thing I find odd is his address. Google map & look at images. Is this his actual office? I think not. It is a mail service company. https://www.yelp.com/biz/mailbox-plus-simi-valley His old address is permanently closed. 4438 E Los Angeles Ave, Simi Valley, CA 93063 On website the Contractor # listed is not showing up in CA license lookup currently. Maybe expired? Of course, it could be I am missing something. I would check more into this. On website their story states " trades". That is suspicious. This is a copy of what the website currently says. " Our Story In 1977 Ramsay Devereux began putting mobile homes together. He set them up for a couple of years and then started his own company in the San Fernando Valley. As building ‘finished’ mobile homes necessarily include multiple construction ‘trades’ he obtained a General Contractors license as well as one for manufactured homes. (B & C-47 397582). In 1990 he met his eventual partner, Sergio. Sergio is now the deck, bathroom & kitchen ‘get-it-done’ guy. Richard is the everything else ‘get-it-done’ guy. Carlos is the brains of the group, whipping up awesome drawings and building plans. All the guys are talented, honest and hard working. The 10 of us are truly one small, happy family." More bad reviews found than good online. I would call your CA Contractor License Board to look into this. A bad review is not enough to fix this. Call a lawyer for a free consultation. I could be wrong, but something seems off on this & worth checking more into. If you don't have time hire a private investgator or call a local tv news shows that does investigations. Pay for a backgroud check or in look into pass court judgements, etc. Best regards. Hope you get some resolve & put this behind soon. Stay strong!

Put a another slab on top of an existing one? NOOOO! Do NOT do this. Your contractor is an idiot!! And that corner crack is indicative of a faulty install. Honestly, I would contact the quartz manufacturer. The quartz companies certify installers/fabricators and most will stand behind the certification. Your quartz should be replaced, at no charge to you.

I just came across this thread. It infuriates me that this creep has obviously taken advantage of this couple. It also warms my heart that so many of you have offered advice. I so hope they get some help.

I thank you. We ARE very senior citizens but not without assets. It's just the depleted savings account. Our contractor felt that he did not charge enough for the work he has done. Small claims court limits the amount to 10K in California. I have already received a quote up to $3,500 to replace the cracking quartz from another company. I supply the quartz. They feel they can remove and old quartz without damage to the cabinets. They did not want to bother with moving the range over 6" installing new quartz (supplied by me) so the drawers would open. This has been very enlighting for my husband me. Thank you everyone.
