Backsplash

Here is an exception where the lower part of the blacksplash looks good. So does the absolute black granite. you'd hardly know it's granite.

As I view these photos, I notice that most Modern style kitchens do not have the lip of the countertop surface coming up the 4" - the backsplash is all-tile.

Example of 4 inch counter. I feel it interrupts the visual expanse of the backsplash, but it does give you a place to put plugs, I guess.

Notice how the fact that the backsplash goes from cabinet to countertop makes the space look larger. I don't love the backsplash but I want to illustrate this point.
