Can you provide details on the hardwood flooring?
In my old kitchen, my husband made one out of MDF for me to cover my 30 inch gas cooktop. It was painted black. It was easy for him to make it. Probably because he enjoys that stuff. I used the cover every time we had guests so they didn't have to see my ugly cooktop and I could use that space for entertaining. It was awesome. He ended up having to make one for all my neighbors after they saw mine.
