A couple things I really like here- 1. the ceiling is super cool! 2. maybe it's slightly more closed than I think I want...but the multiple openings make it feel closer to open concept than not...do you agree? I think something like this could work well for me.

This is totally open- works for me because the kitchen is such a distance from the family room. It's not perfect, but it would work bc the two spaces are divided by the eating area...
