similar set up to our kitchen--notice how closed off this kitchen appears with the pantry on the left end...i think you have a better design with the stove on the "L" and pantry/refrigerator cabinets towards the back. I also think the entertainment area where this pic's pantry is would be a great functional use of space especially if you're going to add a family room/screen porch off the back of the house like the next photo.

Feel so welcomed in this space-I agree, it's a clean, crisp, contemporary design with a very homey feel (all technical terms!) Your brick will make your kitchen feel homey and we can add touches of natural wood while keeping a clean, crisp look. Juxtaposition between rustic and contemporary.
What I would do for vaulted ceilings and skylights....
similar layout to our kitchen---you have the space to do a simple island like this. it could even be on wheels to move out of the way or used a serving cart for entertaining.
