Isn't it sad that you have to do this after spending premium $$$ for what you perceive as a premium product. This has been a problem for Miele dishwashers for many years. I had to replace it twice and by the third time it was going to cost another $200+. Your fix was never suggested by Miele technical service. I am 69 yo and have had many dishwashers. All were "cheaper" and lasted much longer before needing any kind of service. I liked the Miele design very much. But, it's just not worth having to spend $200 every few years just to change the same part. If Miele really stood behind its products they would provide a reasonably longer warranty on a part that is prone to failure. Additionally, you were fortunate enough to have service tell you about this "fix." What about all of the other owners out there who are spending a lot of money because this option was never told to them?
