Kitchen ideas

Reply to: I guess what I mean by "English cottage style" is that I want to find a way to emphasize the classic/vintage-y feel of a simple kitchen rather than having it skew too modern/contemporary. I love the DeVol kitchens, but I don't think I want to use any bold colors on my cabinetry because my kitchen is so small and I want something that I can easily change in 10 years or so by repainting walls and such. I am planning to get glass-front cabinets for many of my uppers, which I think helps with that vintage-y feel. We don't have space for open shelving, and I know butcher-block countertops would be lovely, but we need something lower maintenance and very durable. I love the warmth of wood floors, but I'm reluctant to continue our real wood into the kitchen, so I've been considering either terra-cotta-look or limestone/travertine-look tile (since those would bring in some of the warmth). Here are a few inspiration pictures to get an idea of what I'm thinking. I'm not trying to exactly replicate any of these This kitchen makes me swoon! I love the clean white look with the darker floors, warm metals, and wood accessories. I haven't been able to find a good terracotta-look tile anywhere, which is why I'm considering limestone/travertine-look tile. I *would* consider using a more interesting light-colored tile like this for a backsplash (instead of just subway tile). I've considered moving away from the Shaker cabinets to something a bit more soft and vintage-y, but I'm on the fence about that because I've always loved the simplicity of Shaker style cabinets (at least since the early 2000s). This kitchen is a good example of the color scheme I might end up with, and I like this, too. Imagine this with warmer metals and a different backsplash: Here is a picture of limestone tile with white beadboard wainscoting and beige-y walls, and I think this works well for a cottage-y vibe.
