Indoor-outdoor living was a big priority on this project. A "service" porch with a fireplace and a screened-in dining porch allow the couple to enjoy the expansive grounds year-round
Outdoor seating areas can quickly become the favorite room in the house. A beautiful view is a great start, and great architecture lays the foundation for a fabulous living space. The gorgeous formal columns on this porch blend seamlessly with the construction of the house, while a wood pergola and casual furniture lend a welcoming and relaxing feel.
Grapes may be traditional for over arbors, but think outside the vine culture. Hops, that standard ingredient for beer, can work just as well, if not better, to cover an arbor or pergola or to train along a fence. You can even train hops, with support, as a small tree. They're vigorous climbers — great for quick coverage, but you will have to cut them back to keep them under control. The light-green leaves are large and decorative, and the flowers on the female plant are also green and cone-shape with some fragrance.

SUNROOM Inside the rear screened-in porch is a grill and bar area with concrete counters, refrigerator drawers, a gas grill and a single burner.
SUNROOM Slated to be an "all-year entertaining space," the new screened-in porch has an arched brick fireplace with a TV above, Bevolo gas lanterns and Pennsylvania bluestone flooring along with brick. "We slurried the brick to conceal where the old house stopped and the new house begins," Blumenfeld says.
The Chippendale design is highly prevalent in this backyard garden: It can be found on the decorative rail system and the patio bench.
Perennial plants can also provide us with more subtle planting. Brunnera is a great plant for moist, shady situations. Its large heart-shape leaves make a good ground cover, and though it has delicate sprays of flowers similar to forget-me-nots, the foliage is the real winner.

Take cues from your formal dining room when it comes to hanging lighting. This onion lantern pendant has exterior style, but it's hung in an interior way — centered over the dining table.

A Jack-on-Jack pattern is carried throughout this entire pool and seating area. Setting bricks in such a fashion can help create an illusion or feeling of a larger space then what actually exists. It is interesting how this stacked bond pattern is installed directly to the pool edge with no border.
