What if the walkway from master bedroom to bathroom alcove is a vinyl or wood or laminate and then separate carpet pieces for living room and office areas. This would avoid the wear and tear on the carpet like you get between the kitchen and laundry/entry hall. It would also eliminate most seams in the carpet.
