Cabinet Hardware Placement & Ideas

Cabinet hardware is quite a personal choice, like choosing jewelry for an outfit! When I had my kitchen renovated a few years ago, I chose simple Shaker style cabinetry and simple pulls, that do not catch on clothing. They are all the same size: 5.5”, brand: Top Knobs. I was told by friends and family to pick kitchen hardware that would not catch on your clothing.

Knobs are pocket catchers for me so no knobs. This time around, I chose pulls for everything because I had to and I chose a finish that would blend in. I prefer not to have any pulls or knobs; my last house had neither and it was awesome. Unfortunately this builder made me choose one or the other.

What kind of house do you have? We have a raised ranch and knocked down the dining, living and kitchen wall. Our setup was similar to yours. Our kitchen is 11x11 and we have an island that’s 48x54. There’s plenty of room in our kitchen with the island. I think it’s possible if you remove the wall :). This also didn’t cost us much because my s/o and his friends (all tradesmen) spent a night knocking the walls down themselves. Of course we confirmed that we didn’t have a beam in the way before we did anything.

@Natalia Pulido If the size is 10 x 4.5, No, I don't think it is too big! That is the size our island will be and I can't freakin' wait! My current prep space is about 30 inches wide LOL. My KD told me anything wider than 4.5 feet across makes it difficult to clean the center of the island. The overhang is good for seating. The only difference we did is that our cabinet maker has a faux panel coming out to the end of the overhang on each side to help support the large slab, thus making the overhang visually disappear from the side view.
