Q. Your opinion on ideal lighting for a home kitchen? By the way, I love that ceiling treatment where you exposed the joists in part only. A. Thanks. The contractor did a great job fitting in new joists to replace the old when needed. We did a combination in regards to lighting: three pendant lights, pin spots in the area with exposed beams [and] large cans in between the beams.

This is one of my favorite bathrooms ever. The oversize tile is installed flawlessly. The tile for the shower controls was drilled for the plumbing fixture and mitered along the long edge (the bottom of the tile) to meet the tile on the top of the niche. So much effort for just one tile, but this look is worth it.

A wall storage unit can be a real workhorse. This one functions as a space divider between bathroom and sleeping space in a master suite, and also as a headboard — with storage compartments, of course

shows how the concrete block walls can be used in a bathroom. Most likely a sealer is used to keep the water out of the porous blocks, but otherwise the masonry is left bare, a stark appearance that combines with the glass and openness to feel like an outdoor room.

is the tile on the back wall and the floor? Thanks!” “I like the gray stone/tile. A mix of that with white and black appeals. But I am color blind and selling my home. Too bold?” “love tile color and pattern variation” “stone tile on left side wall” “Mixing tile sizes and textures, skylight, glass shower door, and universal design- curbless shower”

A detail of the kitchen shows how low-cost Ikea cabinetry can be part of a more custom appearance. Here the plywood toe kick, minimalist door pulls, concrete countertop and contrasting side-hung uppers create a kitchen that looks high end.
