Good use of window space for table, along with great view from the sink and efficient work space. Get the best of both worlds and orient your sink toward the dining room and a pleasing view. This kitchen’s remodel included a new bay window to open things up. Its three major work areas are laid out in an efficient triangle. https://www.houzz.com/magazine/where-should-you-put-the-kitchen-sink-stsetivw-vs~14445057?utm_source=Houzz&utm_campaign=u10246&utm_medium=email&utm_content=gallery9_10&newsletterId=10246

Room divider shelves While Geoffrey Gainer's Queen Anne needed a new kitchen, he didn't want a faux old-fashioned or disjointed modern style to replace it. Instead, Gainer merged the kitchen and dining room, using Douglas fir shelves, cork flooring and paper-based countertops that will all show signs of gentle wear. Over time, this new kitchen will start to blend with the home's older bones. https://www.houzz.com/magazine/the-20-most-popular-kitchens-of-the-week-in-2012-stsetivw-vs~5855031

Layout of kitchen, dining table, windows/doors, and stairs, and living Readers loved designer Jennifer Ott's aqua and lime kitchen in Texas. While the bold-colored island and backsplash caught Houzzers' eyes, the functionality of this smart kitchen is what made it bookmark worthy. Extra-large drawers in lieu of base shelving, hidden storage in the window seat and two pantries help Ott keep her kitchen tidy. https://www.houzz.com/magazine/the-20-most-popular-kitchens-of-the-week-in-2012-stsetivw-vs~5855031

Blue color https://www.houzz.com/magazine/the-20-most-popular-kitchens-of-the-week-in-2012-stsetivw-vs~5855031 Set on a lake on the northern coast of Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts, this kitchen has soothing blue cabinetry that struck a note with Houzz readers. A spacious back pantry, plenty of natural light and entertainment-friendly solutions make this kitchen great for cooking dinner for 10 or two.

7. Double-Duty Pantry With a laundry station in the pantry, it’s easy to toss in a load of laundry while tackling kitchen chores. In this space from Whitten Architects, the washer and dryer are tucked below the counter in a butler’s pantry just off the kitchen. https://www.houzz.com/ideabooks/117866712?utm_source=Houzz&utm_campaign=u9996&utm_medium=email&utm_content=gallery1_1&newsletterId=9996

https://www.houzz.com/ideabooks/117541967?utm_source=Houzz&utm_campaign=u9951&utm_medium=email&utm_content=gallery3_3&newsletterId=9951 Reclaimed wood used for the beams, flooring and shelving brings back the character of the old house, while stainless steel appliances, new cabinetry and a new island with shiplap siding modernize the space. The architects chose spruce for the island counter, and granite for the perimeter counters. “The homeowners wanted something durable but rustic looking, so we went with leathered black granite on the perimeter. It is also a relatively affordable stone,” Rideout says. The light gray ceramic backsplash tile has rough edges that give it a wavy, textured look. The choice of paint color was an important part of maintaining the home’s period character, Rideout says. The window trim is darker than the walls in keeping with the home’s original era. The architects went with Benjamin’s Moore’s Stonybrook for the trim and Revere Pewter for the shiplap walls.

3. Designer Kieran Liebl says she pulled from her clients’ coastal New England roots when designing this new Shingle-style home in Minnesota. The living room features the layout and amenities of an open, contemporary home but showcases details often seen in classic coastal houses, including a beamed ceiling, stone fireplace surround and ocean-inspired colors. Glass fishing floats, vintage maps and other coastal decor reinforce the New England theme. https://www.houzz.com/ideabooks/116608600?utm_source=Houzz&utm_campaign=u9668&utm_medium=email&utm_content=gallery3_3&newsletterId=9668

This new kitchen in Asheville, North Carolina, is an ideal blend of rustic and refined elements. The space, designed by Laura Sullivan of IDology Interiors & Design, features leathered-granite countertops and a shiplap backsplash. The large island is painted in Peppercorn by Sherwin-Williams and hosts four molded walnut stools. Note the stylish banquette alcove in the corner of the room. https://www.houzz.com/ideabooks/116686403?utm_source=Houzz&utm_campaign=u9615&utm_medium=email&utm_content=gallery0_0&newsletterId=9615

Wet Bar: The designer repurposed an underutilized corner of the dining area by adding a custom floor-to-ceiling built-in made of alder wood. The built-in was designed to look like a piece of furniture. It includes a wine refrigerator at the bottom and a seeded-glass-front cabinet on top. A bar area in the center features a quartz countertop and a backsplash of antique mirrored glass tiles. https://www.houzz.com/ideabooks/115864660?utm_source=Houzz&utm_campaign=u9465&utm_medium=email&utm_content=gallery6_8&newsletterId=9465

Here they started with fixed windows, then had the cabinets custom built so the muntins on the doors would line up perfectly. The windows below the cabinets are separate awning windows that open. Their panes are the same size as those on the windows above them, which creates a cohesive look. To support the cabinets, the architects had to get creative. They couldn’t hang them from the angled ceiling, and there weren’t walls on either side to attach them to either. So the sides of the cabinets contain steel plates that are fastened to steel angles built into the vertical posts between the windows. https://www.houzz.com/ideabooks/115749943?utm_source=Houzz&utm_campaign=u9442&utm_medium=email&utm_content=gallery12&newsletterId=9442
