White is classic. White is elegant, tasteful and always in style. It glows by candlelight and looks splendid with antiques and original wood trim. Unlike some of-the-moment colors, a room painted white will never feel dated. If you’re looking for a paint color that will last, you can’t go wrong with classic white.
Shaker-style chairs. Whether you choose the originals or pick from one of the modernized versions on the market, Shaker-style chairs are a farmhouse must. But don’t feel you need a full set — they also work well as occasional chairs. 8. Antique wood furniture. Something genuinely old lends gravitas to an interior — especially important if you are channeling farmhouse style in an apartment or a new build. Even one piece, like the gate-leg table shown here, can be enough to boost the farmhouse feel.
Incorporate the five elements. Don’t stop with potted plants — to really embrace nature in your home, make sure all five elements are represented. They are: water (images of water, a fountain, flowers in a bowl of water), earth (stone, plants), fire (candles, incense, fireplace), metal (furniture, tools) and wood (furniture, beams).

small living room- another layout.
small living room solutions:Completely fill a corner. It’s a bit counterintuitive, but if you have a small corner living room space, sometimes going with the largest piece of furniture possible can actually make it feel bigger. Why? A generously sized sectional (like the one shown here) is comfortable and able to seat tons of people — but because it reads as just one piece, it helps the room feel uncluttered. A modern sectional with clean, straight lines works better in a small space than an overstuffed version. The layout: A tailored sectional sofa is in one corner, with a pair of leather folding stools pulled in close to form a conversational group. Fill out the group with a slipper chair if you have the room. Seats: seven or eight.
Smaller scale for doorbell alcove: Styling tip: Take painting your bookcases as an opportunity to pare down your collection of books and objects — aim to keep at least one-third of each shelf empty. When you paint the back of a bookshelf, it is especially important to leave some free space so you can see the color behind the objects. Mix things up by alternating stacks of books with objects, or try leaning a few taller items behind the books to add depth.
Vary the scale. The oversize sunburst mirror frame fills up the wall space nicely here, while the sand dollars make an interesting grouping below. They would be much too insignificant individually. Threes and fives make for more pleasing arrangements than even numbers.

Sunroom corner storage - Cover a basic round table or demilune with a floor-length cloth, and use the space underneath for storage. Use a lovely Nantucket-style basket to hide keys.
Rug on rug - The chunky sisal defines the boundaries of the living area, while the bamboo silk rug on top adds a touch of foot-tickling softness in the central seating area. (It would have been too expensive to get a silk rug the size of the sisal, so this solution allowed Hidalgo-Nilsson to introduce a sense of luxury without blowing the budget.)
If you’re going to splurge on something like Ann Sacks antiqued mirror tiles, pick a spot where a little will go along way. These tiles make a huge impact, yet the Russells did not have to invest in boxes and boxes of them.

chinese garden stool or garden seat-Can you see how a table, rather than this garden seat, might not be the right thing here? The garden seat is subtle and unobtrusive — it doesn’t detract from the very special coffee table, but still adds textural interest and provides the convenience of a table.
Floor tiles as art. There are some amazing floor tiles out there. Why not hang a few as art? Check a tile store or stone quarry, or hunt down some vintage tin ceiling tiles (they come in the most beautiful patterns).
Painted frames. If you want to fill up a wall on a tight budget and don’t mind a morning with a paint can, this could be right up your alley. Collect old frames at yard sales and paint them to match. Hung on the wall without glass here, they make a unique display for small 3D objects.

A sandblasted and honed hex Crema Marfil tile covers the floor. “The marble has an antique finish, which gives it a leathery, unfinished appearance and patina,” Neithart says. A little tile rug and vintage table add Moroccan flair. These accent tiles are pricey, so Neithart made sure a little went a long way. Moroccan tile: Ann Sacks
