Just a personal story on gray walls. I always painted room a standard premixed off white. My first venture into color was a cool gray matched with my sofa and recliner. New husband had yellow walls in living room/dining/kitchen. This was 23 years ago. He painted a 3' square.... it looked purple. A partial wall... it looked purple. A full wall... it looked purple. Until every spot of yellow was covered it looked purple. In the end it matched everything perfect. I loved the color. But I cried until all the walls were covered. Im thinking you have the same problem. The orange from the carpet is changing what you are seeing. I wouldn't repainted until you have the flooring out of there. I also wouldn't paint the rock.
