Add wood pieces for contrast. This vent hood, antique drop-leaf table and Toledo stools bring in a rustic look that keeps the kitchen from feeling too stark.

Kathy, Unfortunately, I don’t have much of an update since I last spoke to Ted Jordan. We remain in a default position with our senior lenders which prohibits us from resuming the subordinated debt payments. The amendment to the credit facility will likely occur over the summer when we have more visibility into next year. Craig

Honed Pietra Cardosa countertops. Every designer has a personal favorite countertop material; Pietra Cardosa is mine. Pietra Cardosa is a type of natural stone called a schist — a coarse-grained metamorphic rock formed from layers of different minerals. Its beauty is not exactly maintenance free; it does require sealing about once a year to keep it looking pristine. I’m willing to take on the upkeep, because I think it’s a stunning material. Tip: Want the look of stone but prefer a zero-maintenance material? Check out the many options for engineered quartz countertops.

Or keep your cabinets clean and white and use soft yellow as a wall or backsplash color. I like this mix of neutral colors and materials. The dark honey wood floors contrast nicely with the crisp white cabinets and the accents of pale yellows.

Reclaimed wood, Shaker cabinets and metallic tiles make this kitchen anything but your standard all-white kitchen.

Here is a photo without the table in it, which gives you a better look at the concrete floors. They are original to the house. Szidon had them refinished after the old walls and cabinets came down. Matching the new finish to the original green hue was painstaking but worth the effort.
