Our built-ins are all Ikea items with similar design, screwed together and to the wall, and then painted all the same color. Andrew added a wood top to some of them to add warmth.

Good way to use a pretty tile that would be too much in a kitchen.

The artwork makes the color of the appliances very intentional. Works well.

Interesting stand alone bar unit.

Stacking is a great option if you don't have a laundry room area or want to save the space for something else. The one caution is that the laundry will inevitably spill out into the room, with laundry baskets of clean laundry, drying racks, etc. It forces a person to keep it up pretty constantly. With counters across or even just the tops of the units, you have a place to fold, leave folded things, etc.

I'm really enjoying the variations of word art available these days. Going to add some to my life!

Nice warm feel to it, great for lower level rooms. Also, beautifully done ceiling, so much better than popcorn! You could even use inexpensive faux paneling for this, and paint it.

I really like this way of doing "open" - boxing in the support posts in an appealing way. Maintains separation while keeping the sight lines open.

Reducing the amount of drywall area is always a challenge, but so worth the effort when it works. This one has a bit too much painted stone in my view, I'd replace with painted paneling in some areas.

Small built in areas like this are nice places to add a subtle touch of color, a pretty tile, cabinet or counter top that would be too much if it was large scale. This is pretty!

Also very pretty!!

Too much dark for a lower level room. I'd paint the island the wall color, or a color with the same tone as the walls ie, if the photo was black and white, they'd look the same color. Love the coffee table!

These are brilliant! Easy to make, and in fact, you could do a whole cabinet of racks for drying clothes. I'm going to steal this.

Enclosed laundry rooms are the perfect place to have a little fun.

Nice. Glass with light behind it acts like a window psychologically in small lower level rooms. Lit like this works too. Thumbs up on the full lite door.

I would leave the stone work off the upper portion around the TV. High contrast draws the eye, and the tv is at eye level. Better to use the fireplace to draw the eye. Use the wall color behind the tv. If it was already stoned, I'd probably paint the stone lol

This is an all around beautiful family-centered room. Casual and elegant at the same time. Just the right amount of color, and a perfect mix of neutrals. Also has a lot of room for variation. Very well designed space. Shows what you can do in a small room with limited funds. Puts the money where it should be, in the upholstered furniture. Uses Ikea wall units well. The other three photos of this room show interesting touches as well. This room is exceptional.

Nice.

These are both very pretty, generally in a smaller room, these look invasive and waste space that could be better used.
