Have you seen some of the tile options that have color variation but are not "zellige"? portmore, montauk and cloe are some options that have multiple colors. Fireclay tile also has some high color variability tiles. I like zellige but decided not to go with it because it seems difficult to find an experienced installer.

We just finished a master bathroom addition in a 1928 home. We used calacatta gold hex tile on the floor and zellige from Riad tile in Snow on the walls. We've been using the shower for about two months now and so far so good. I spray it with Clean Shower Daily Shower Cleaner after each shower and it has not been too hard to clean.
