Hillside use
Roof/patio on a hillside
Open patio, rooflines, overhang (like a modern cloisters)
corner windows
entrance, front patio
Varied height of roofline, materials
I like these windows
entrance between two structures, cement blocks
overhanng with fan, windows/doors
Love this small upper level cozy sitting area
JG - favorite house so far - I love the back of this house and the front! It has the protected courtyard feel, deep overhang and structured patio and the metal siding accent wall on the exterior feels like the chef’s kiss. Also the thick concrete planters, the dedicated central fire area and the pass through to the kitchen is also great!
JG current favorite - Love the way the garage bays look like different structures and the material combinations. I like the blocks coming out of the roofline. -JG
Deep overhangs, view through entrance
I like the roof on this, it reminds me almost of a Japanese pagoda roof with the curve. -JG
I love the idea of an entrance that pulls the view through and out the other side of the house
I like this very structured patio overhang with the wood underneath. -JG
Inner courtyard
Protected courtyard with interesting shape and material combinations.
(This is the same 3 sided courtyard from the other photo). I think I like them because they remind me of Cloisters.
I’ve always been a fan of a U shaped house, or of an inner courtyard.
I like a lot of things about this, but the extension of the overhang and the wood underneath are what originally drew me in. -JG
Like the mix of materials, the rock is not overwhelming
DH - Flat siding like this.
DH - Flat siding like this (but Horizontal) also, what about that rusty metal in the back? Like or no?I like multiple things, but the roofline and extra long extension of course is the main appeal, but also the integration of the lower level. This is Asher’s favorite.
The deep double patios on this appealed to both me and Andrew. -JG
We suspect that the lot will potentially favor a daylight basement situation so we were looking at some options for that and this general setup was agreeable. -JG
I like the white exterior with the black metal roof, but I feel like maybe it is having a moment? And maybe is too trendy? Andrew prefers a warmer organic palette. -JG
This was Vivian’s pick. She likes “cozy”.
This is a curiosity thing, about outdoor space on an upper level, I find it intriguing and I like the way it looks, not sure it is practical. -JG
The curved roof appeals to me, but not so much to Andrew. We kept it in to look at the mix of exterior materials. -JG
Courtyard entrance to a through-view entrance. Also materials, although maybe too much rock.
I don’t know what this style is called, where there is a shape of a house that extends from the house, but it appeals to me. JG

closer to a mid-tone brown, too variagated
