We did polished calacatta backsplash with honed counters and it definitely goes. It actually make sense because the polished is actually good for stains not scratches and the honed is the reverse.

We did! We have honed calcatta countertops and a polished marble subway tile on the backsplash- at first I thought they should be the same but now, I love the contrast! There is a bit of shimmer in the backsplash that gives wonderful texture to the kitchen

Your grout line size will depend on the tile. Please read this. https://www.custombuildingproducts.com/media/60712312/tb85-grout-joint-width.pdf 1/16 will be disappointing unless you have absolutely perfect and even, straight, tiles. Even glass tiles have some differences. I did 1/8" for mine, and I love it. My tiles are 3x12.

Beautiful kitchen!!! I must be honest and say I am not loving the white crown on top of wood hood. For fun I did a few mockups for you. Hope it helps you visualize. 1) Hood not raised. Wood crown added. 2) Hood raised 4”. Wood crown. 3) Hood raised 4”. No crown. (I think this was the original plan?) I don’t think #2 looks too squaty with the hood raised up 4” (I guessed on height) and with keeping the top crown ending with the tile. I didn’t do a mockup of the hood painted white because I really like your wood hood. But, I can if you would like to see it. Regarding the issue of the hood not venting outside. I wholeheartedly agree with others and recommend you reconsider changing the insert out to one that vents out the wall. I have a pretty powerful range hood and I always use it, even if just to boil water. I run it at least on medium, but I crank it full blast if I am frying. Even with all that, I am amazed by the thick layer of disgusting, yellow, sticky mess that collects on the mesh screens that get cleaned monthly! Unless you constantly clean, I can just imagine all that gunk building up over time on your gorgeous new cabinets. Case in point…I had to temporarily rent out my home with my almost brand new dream white kitchen. Well, less then 2 years later, and the cabinets already need to be repainted. The uppers next to the hood are permanately stained with these tiny yellow grease droplets all over and it does not come off! I tried everything. It just makes me cry everytime I think about spending thousands of dollars that I don’t have for them to be painted professionally or the months and months of work to do it myself. Sorry to go off on my big rant but just think about it…. 😩
