Ok let me rephrase. First the flat out flat isn’t a urethane. I meant to say either a water based polyurethane or a finish like flat out flat. A polyurethane would be better for a high use area like a kitchen cabinet vs flat out flat for furniture grade cabinets

The recipe for success is rub on Sherwin Williams “simply white” stain. Rub it on in small sections like the style or rail of one cabinet and then immediately wipe it off. Within the grain it will have a white tint. Follow up with a water base polyurethane like “flat out flat” by general finishes.
