1. Furry, unattractive beds. This built-in cushion is a nifty way to incorporate your furry companion's equally furry bed into a neat little hideaway. You can customize it to match your decor, and it keeps the pet hair (the bane of any dog/cat owner's existence) in the nook.

This solution isn't as involved as the previous photo, but it's still pretty effective at minimizing any post-doggie dinner mess. Adding a hideaway like this would be fairly easy in most kitchen models.

Now this might be the most innovative dog door I've ever seen. I'm guessing that this leads the dog in and out of the house—so smart! Plus, the fact that it looks like a miniature version of the doors in the home is adorable.

Cat Climb Condo - $299.00 [ Link ] I'm so happy someone finally came up with a solution to those beige, carpet-covered cat play structures that cats love (but people hate). These are fun and simple. A tower of these would be great in a living room corner, looking out over a window.

On a more serious note, if you are building a house from scratch or don't mind a little drywall dust in a minirenovation, an under-cabinet box with a separate secret entrance is a great solution. Your frisky feline enters from an opening on the other side of the wall, while you get to keep the cabinet doors shut unless you are cleaning. This diva likes to do her business and then sneak out her discreet private entrance.

Q

If you're lucky enough to have a precious kitty and a tricked-out laundry room, it's the perfect spot for a secret cat cabinet.

Q

This clever window seat has a lift-up top for cleaning and a cat entrance below. If you're handy, this is probably an easy DIY project. If you're not, it still will probably cost less than the Kattbank.

What do you like about this photo?A dog crate was built into a storage unit dividing the kitchen and entry hall. One side is always open, and grilles on both sides provide cross ventilation, as well as views in several directions for the owners’ Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Helo and Athena (named after characters on Battlestar Gallactica). “Crates are big and hard to work furniture around,” Pelletier says. “So if you can build them in, it gives your pets a proper place in the house.” Although Helo and Athena can freely roam the house during the day, they often prefer to stay inside their built-in crate, where they feel safe and protected. A drain in the bottom mitigates accidents.
