Concrete will crack, so plan an appropriate pattern of saw cuts. Here's one of Frank Lloyd Wright's houses with his signature red concrete floors. Note the thoughtful saw cut pattern, appropriate to the architecture.

HIGH END epoxy finishes are outstanding! Simple and tough as nails, expensive; multiple stain applications + high end clear coat epoxy = $25/ sf.-- Maintenance depends on final finish-- Concrete will crack, so plan an appropriate pattern of saw cuts. Wright's signature red concrete with thoughtful saw cut pattern, appropriate to the architecture.-- POLISHED concrete (no sealants, no finish, just ground concrete) is as porous as marble, will stain and etch. Finish concrete with urethane, but it scratches, starts at $5/ sf. Polishing as well as recoating, sometimes within 5 years.
