SRW wants spice cupboard up higher so that he can read names of spices without bending down, but I think it's important to use a space like this for something we think of if space is leftover or if layout suggests a space like this -- maybe six wine glasses on the top shelf and other items less used -- even some liquor (we have a lot).
We will use knife block, but we need drawer like this for two sets of silverware. Take photo of our existing one. I'd like one exactly like it. It's two levels, top level a pull-out shelf; utensils fit under back of the the top level because lower level has extra space. I guess this is a question of how deep the kitchen counter is by the sink.
We have white back-splash in France, and it cleans up well.

Want this type of drawer but with pullout second layer and larger, with enough space for two sets of silverware. Then two other full sized drawers for utensils.
Similar layout but stove would be on wall behind photographer in our layout and no windows in dining area.

Counter might be more practical on both sides of refrigerator/freezer. Side-by-side refrigerator/freezer probably desired.
White/stainless with gray/taupe granite or other stone would be good to tie in with wood on hood or wood under island.

We have similar Grohe faucet in Leimert kitchen and we like it. Also have and like sink/granite counter installation. Leimert sink is by Franke and we like it. It is sturdy and cleans up very well. Insinkerator Pro disposal has worked well, too.

This is a nice look. Not sure how anything like this could possibly be incorporated, but it's a pleasing look. Only could be possible if island were made of verathaned wood with sink on one side. Sink side would be all stainless steel and granite; island side would be verathaned wood and/or granite.

We can build island of natural wood and granite; then have cupboards painted. That would keep area light but still help transition to dining/great room.
Similar layout. No glass on cupboards. Dad prefers natural wood cabinets, but he doesn't care that much.
