Kitchen
“The sleek, monolithic kitchen has a restrained palette of relaxed materials and strong rectangular forms. The bold black tapware, wine rack and window frame give definition to the working wall, where the white cupboards almost float from the concrete wall. “Its design is simple yet bold, with a sleek rectangular block of timber cabinetry supporting a substantial concrete benchtop and waterfall end.”
Really like this kitchen and scullery (not Shrubbery!) design: "This scullery is open to the main kitchen when the sliding door is left open, so the finishes are consistent. Different bench top thicknesses distinguish the two zones." Ribbon windows to the W, S/W of the property is exactly what I have in mind. With a large opening to outdoor eating area at kithen end, and another to outdoor area at scullery end. FAB!
Houzz article on revamp kitchen on a budget - general good advise re use of matching cabinetry in contrasting colours: "9. Times two Choosing matching cabinets in two different finishes is an inspired way to make an inexpensive kitchen look more designer. This chic scheme is kitted out with Ikea units in both white and dark finishes. The latter zone the main cooking area while the white units mark out the central peninsula and breakfast bar."
The colour (black) helps the space look less like a kitchen within the open plan. 4. This villa perched in the forest outside of Stockholm, Sweden, emphasizes different views, that of trees and moss. (In fact, it is named Villa Vy, and vy is Swedish for view.) Suitably, the designers at Kjellander + Sjöberg Architects put the focus beyond the glass on the trees and the moss by creating a black kitchen. The color also helps the space look less like a kitchen within the open plan. Black kitchen idea. Black cabinetry, wood furniture, concrete (look) bench top and floor
"1. Black, white and grey The contrast of black and white has been a much loved colour combination both in fashion and interiors for many many years. Although the contrast of black and white is strong, it’s still a very easy scheme to live with. Because there is no real colour as such, a black and white scheme can be brightened with various coloured accessories that can easily be changed as you tire of them. When we think black and white, we think black tie – smart and sophisticated, and most definitely not out of date. To create maximum impact with this colour scheme, look for the brightest, most crisp white and the purest black. Soften the harsh contrast of black and white by introducing some grey tones. Black is a strong colour that creates big impact, so if you have a small space, use it sparingly. Consider a glossy finish for your black surfaces; this will help to bounce light around the room and make the black feel less heavy. AND WOOD.
Black, white and wood. Herringbone(?) timber flooring. "3. Black, white and woodTo warm up black and white, add timber floors and wood accents for a look that feels lively despite not having any true – and possibly trendy – colours. In a larger kitchen, try black cabinets with a white island to make the island a focus. In a smaller kitchen, reverse the colours to keep the walls open and airy."
I like this kitchen design and materials (wood, stone, window - but not the the wood colour window framing so much) see other pics in this house re flooring i.e. highly polished using XX method to finish) for the kitchen, bathroom (flow through coordination of each) and downstairs area leading out to pool/laundry area - this house is very contemporary - we would be looking for more wood flooring or paneling and lots of texture for a more 'comfy' but modern overall interior design. i.e. (Triton Development comment re flooring: "Hi. The concrete was specifically designed and purely with the end result in mind. The concrete was lightly ground and polished. it was then finished using the Certi shine system. http://www.vexcon.com/m/products/polished-concrete/certi-shine-lp2.aspHope this helps and good luck")
pantry door
Lovely textures and colours - add ribbon window with view to national park and similar colour boulders to concrete/stone. V nice.
Lovely mix of timber with dark matt cabinetry. Notice how the light wall and island colour pick up the hue of the timber (i.e. not stark white).
Love the 'cornered' and full glass as splash back in this kitchen
Nice and practical cantilevered island design - love the stools
Nice island bench design - like how extends to the outdoor area - handy if it rains i.e. inside/outside feel but dry - could work well with design we are thinking of out the the back area. Very sociable design - consideration in design is to make sure you're not sitting in just used kitchen to cook food that is unsightly. Most can be rinsed and put in dishwasher as you go - but a deep sink to temporarily put used cooking utensils etc would also be a good idea.
Concrete and wood - love this look. Concrete floor; wood island with concrete bench top; if doing in pitch could incorporate wood panel ceiling in that area only - so neutral cabinetry elsewhere would work/cut down cost possibly too? See Houzz article on how to incorporate colour in open plan design i.e. timber panel bulkhead kitchen continued through to connect living and dining area. (saved in Interior Design & Material folder)
Great mix of materials - v similar to what we have in mind - with a lovely ribbon window out to sandstone rock shelf, greenery etc
Ceiling; nice mix of materials
Simple design and materials - island created by extending the top; complement with under-window bench (with bi-fold window and insect screen - could do one each on western and eastern walls of house)
6. Open front pantry drawers A spacious walk-in or butler’s pantry with lots of storage is on most of my clients’ wish lists. If you are lucky enough to have the space, plan to incorporate some under-bench drawers instead of just shelves in your pantry. Opt for open fronted drawers like these ones so that instead of having to open every drawer to find what you are looking for, you can simply walk into your pantry, take a quick glance across the front of all the drawers, and pull out just the one you need. TIP: Use different drawer heights to store different items. A shallow-height drawer is perfect for storing cans and jars while a deeper drawer is great for flour, cereal boxes and bigger jars of spaghetti and other dried foods.
Spice draw - good idea
Nice silver metal island
Nice galley kitchen - similar to our outlook out back but also open to front water view
Galley kitchen plan
Clever and clean for puppies :-)
Easy cleaning Carrying the vacuum cleaner around the house is a bit of a chore. Consider installing a vacuum system in the kickboard of your kitchen. You simply sweep up the mess from the floor towards the vacuum plate on your kickboard and when you active it, it sucks up all the dirt that you sweep towards it. Magic! It’s a fun way to get your children involved in the cleaning up too.
Striking - timber floor colour against white
Light steaming into kitchen via sky lights
Wooden bench top (reclaimed?)
Tap
Stepped up kitchen galley and bar seating area
Lovely white galley kitchen - feels a bit like being on a boat
Different idea for island - suits industrial/Aussie shed designed house
If have polished concrete floor in kitchen - nice way to soften with lots of timber perhaps.
Nifty knife storage idea.
Roller draw for cleaning supplies under sink. Great idea.
White with blue yellow splash back works really well
Mid grey tile wall / sandstone yellow and texture / light grey concrete (fire place?) - warm wood - lovely colour palette.
White and grey always look fab.
I like the deep leg room under the island and therefore how the chairs sit in the space.
Love the loads of light through windows and skylight design - nice in white too - though I'm still thinking Wood Floor/White cabinetry/same colour wood bench top - then this does white next up to skylight windows - could consider for south-west corner of kitchen although this kitchen has amazing views of bay, which we could do too - this particular also has a touch of French country via the sink - would love to be able to incorporate into design as it is what I am drawn to as much as I also love more modern. Its about getting the right balanced.
Perhaps something like this eating bench and stools incorporated into the kitchen/dining space - would be great if had windows that opened with a similar bench on the outside as a serving area when dining al fresco. The window I am thinking of is the Stegbar Timber Bi-Folders which can incorporate a insect screen into it. http://www.stegbar.com.au/Products/Windows/Timber/Timber-Bi-fold-Windows
Lovely kitchen (albeit wood is too dark for us) but would suit design we are thinking of i.e. with window under a large eave on western side of house. If done right could allow openness and light but maintain privacy from neighbours.
Lovely light filled kitchen - really open up to the outdoors.
Love this island countertop (glazed lava stone from France) apparently!
Nice splash back (material and colour) - I wonder how a (partially) mirrored splash back would look to reflect bay views in new house?
A tidy and out of the way design in island for pet bowls - very good
Adjustable pegs in a deep draw lets you easily fit in all your breakables.etc
Appliance 'garage' great, neat and tidy solution
Great utility/use of cupboard space - otherwise things at the back of more traditional tend to be forgotten/hard to find etc without pulling all the items at the front of a cupboard out /have to move about etc
Pull out garbage bins - good design
Sliding draw under sink - so simple yet very effective
Ribbon window splash back upper cupboard design.
