if you refinish the floors and they stay light like this. I would match the shelves beside the fridge this light beechy wood. Also I would tile behind the shelves to the ceiling. or (for Aiden stop at the bottom of the first shelf :-) less $$
so definitely do two upper doors (not one tall door). It is more $ but the doors will be more stable, and the upper storage is not always exposed.
