This may be a way to address the safety on the top of the stairs & combine a vertical and horizontal view in an arts & craft style. Look at tile work with this project.

Like the cast iron with the wood & how had a rail from bottom to top.

Like how rail is close to the wall. Nice look for the upper part of stair well & how the steps look.

Interesting approach for the whole stairwell & this can tie into the beam in this level. Like the horizontal wood finish at the base and a rila on the inside wall.

This combines our lighter floors for steps with a darker railing to go with the beam yet keeping the stairs not too dark.
