there are LOTS of French country hoods you can purchase for a fRACTION of the cost you quoted ….just look around and Do It!!

if you love the contrast of color for the hood, you can make the box frame to look like this and paint it a contrasting color....even a copper color for warmth.

Notice the vent over the stovetop....if you're not comfortable DIYing a French hood, you can box in the vent, add brackets underneath to give the illusion of a free standing hood.

This backsplash tile is interesting.....barely a hint of color, so from a distance it looks all white....but up close adds dimension.

looks like they incorporated my idea of a pull out cabinet! I don't think you need it though.... Look at their open wine storage....and glass front cabinets for glass...
