Woods

Same house as I have saved elsewhere, but this is a good shot in a different light of the different blend of woods. The house is a bit more traditional than ours will be, but it also has a good feel.

Q

Is there a difference between oak in England and in US?

Q

What wood and finish is this? It would be very warm with the countertop.

Q

Photo

Same kitchen as last, but this is what the appliance wall would look like.

Q

This is white oak, rift cut, with a white glaze and then a clear coat finish. I’m not convinced I like it, but this is sort of what I have been looking for.

Q

Not wood: a favorite kitchen with painted cabinets.

This wood (rift sawn oak) looks as good as it does because the white is pretty saturated elsewhere. We could soften the look a bit with a colored tile, but I think the white has to be strong to keep the wood from darkening the room.

Q

What is this wood?

Q

Rift sawn oak, with good cabs..

Q

Love this kitchen and it is rift-sawn oak!

Rift-sawn oak, modern cabs.

Rift sawn oak, modern cabs.

Q

Rift sawn oak, vertical grain, less yellow, but again done in ultra modern cab style.

Q

Rift sawn oak, grain worked vertically, but I don’t like the ultra modern totally slab cabs, and I’m not sure I like the yellow cast of it.

Q

Is this cerused oak?

Q

Photo

Cerused oak. I like it here but the difference between this example and other more whitened versions may be the grain that is exposed by the kind of cut that is done if the grain is more pronounced. If it were the close grain of a rift cut oak it might be a less pronounced and more even

Q

Cerused oak, but is this a finer grain than the quarter sawn? It does not seem to have so much chalky striping.

Q

Cerused oak up close. Don’t know if I like it.

Cerused oak

This is cerused oak-lime washed quarter sawn oak.
