i don't like that the cupboards don't go to the top. Also seems too monochromatic.

This is a 9' foot ceiling with 48" upper cabinets and 6" of crown molding. Stacked cabinets are a great look for specific kitchen designs or in a specific section of the kitchen. This client wanted a clean look with maximized storage, so the large doors were selected.
The wood at the top is closer to 7". The ceiling height, to be more precise, is about 8'8". The cabinets were hung at about 8'1". Keep in mind that these are custom cabinets, which were built 44" tall. If you're using standard-height cabinets, hung at 8'1", the gap between the countertop and the bottom of the cabinets will probably be too large.

The granite was Juperana Tier Ivory one of the African Colors
African Mahogany granite is so stunning it is like a piece of art, so we kept the backsplash simple with a lovely marble basketweave. Notice the lack of outlets, that is because they are all buried under the cabinets to keep the splash clean and uninterrupted.
