The countertops around the perimeter are the standard 1¼-inch thickness, and the steel gray granite contrasts all of the light colors. “This granite has a beautiful crystal pattern in it that sparkles, while the honed finish makes it really durable,” Jules says. The island is full of storage all the way around. The sides have spaces for cookie sheets, platters and cutting boards. Cookware fits under the island, and panel-front cabinets without hardware on the stool side provide hidden storage. There is also a panel-front dishwasher tucked in below the sink area. “I love my sink — it’s so practical,” the designer says. It has a cutting board and a colander that fit inside it for easy chopping and cleanup. Hardware: Richelieu; faucet: Grohe; range: Thermador; perimeter countertops: steel gray 2-centimeter granite with a honed finish; island countertop: Super White quartzite (which varies greatly from lot to lot)
For the island countertop, she replaced the too-precious Carrara marble she’d chosen the first time around with quartzite, which is more durable. “I just couldn’t live with the Carrara,” she says. She chose a 2-inch thickness to give it a bigger presence. Paint by Sherwin-Williams: Knitting Needles SW 7672 (walls), Extra White SW 7006 (cabinets and trim) and Mindful Gray SW 7016 (island base); hood: XO; pendant light, backsplash tile and flooring: available via Jules Duffy Design
IReliance on the beauty of natural materials. It's not to say that modern kitchens can't have a little bit of ornamentation, but when they do, they get it from the natural characteristics in a material, such as the horizontal grain of oak when it's rift cut or the natural beauty and veining of marble.
4. Lack of ornamentation. Always a signature of modern, this is often where contemporary and modern stop being similar. Whereas you might see patterned tile shapes or multiple materials with texture, color and patina in a contemporary kitchen, you won't see much of that in a modern kitchen. Flat-panel door styles and sleek hardware are joined here by a simple full-height glass backsplash and countertops without any pattern or veining.

20. Hidden outlet strip. So many of you spend good amounts of time and money selecting the perfect backsplash that it’s a shame to have to mar the surface with all of the outlets most building codes require. Cdve offers a solution, saying, “I didn’t want outlets in my backsplash, so we installed cheap linear power strips underneath the cabinets, mounted on an angled block.” If you’re thinking about installing a strip of outlets directly underneath your wall cabinets, make sure you are OK with seeing the inevitable cluster of dangling cords, or be fine with constantly having to unplug your appliances and devices when not in use.
For glass kitchen backsplash? U-channels for recessed glazing. This is a simple, hidden component that makes floor-to-ceiling floating glass and cast acrylic panels possible. The U-channel is set to align flush with the adjacent finished surfaces and disappear. Begin your search by checking with a local glass shop or try C.R. Laurence online for a full range of glass attachment hardware.

Hide toaster into tall cabinet? Ie switch locations with gaggia
An appliance garage. Use a smaller section of a tall cabinet if you don't have a large closet or pantry space for these appliances. Add cabinet doors that can move completely out of the way, and put the appliances on a rollout shelf for easiest accessibility.
Ling Dining Table The top of the LING table consists of two large (22” wide, 2” thick and 8-ft. long) slabs of reclaimed elm wood, stained a dark umber color. The outer edges of the top are the “living edge” of the original elm tree, while the inner edges are cut and machined (with a 1-1/2” gap between the two wood slabs). The table base utilizes blued steel with an overlay of bronze with a complex, laser-cut pattern. Use of furniture styles in kitchen such as legs on island.

Love the seating area with extra kitchen storage. 10. Add layers of lighting. In this kitchen seating area, the backsplash is lit, the artwork is highlighted and the cabinet interiors are filled with light. One central lighting fixture would not have had nearly the same dramatic result. Professionals build layers of lighting to create interest, intrigue and variety. In a room where everything is lit evenly, nothing stands out. Pick a focal point and perhaps a secondary focal point and highlight those. Add general ambient lighting and some lower lighting, like table lamps, for interest.
Using more than one metal tile pattern on the wall creates a dramatic look. This bathroom has a polished river rock tile on the bottom and a brushed tile on the top. It looks as if the wall has been dipped into water.
Walls Take backsplash tile installation one step further with an entire feature wall. The benefit is that it creates a unified surface that’s a dramatic feature void of material changes. This kitchen wall has a solid metal product made by Australian company Alloy. Alloy’s solid tile is punched from a single sheet of the highest-quality metal; it runs $26 to $138 per square foot. Solid products are different than metal-wrapped products in that they cannot be cut onsite by the installer. Alloy founder Jonathon Worner says the company provides a complimentary detailed architectural drawing in AutoCAD using the customer’s dimensions to create factory-made finished edge tiles where needed.
Many people use their garages for more than parking cars, so Whirlpool has come up with an innovative Gladiator line of products designed for garages and other unheated spaces. The Chillerator refrigerator sits on casters for easy moving, and keeps things cold even with fluctuating exterior temperatures (something most standard fridges are not designed to do). We also appreciate the tire tracks on the door.
Laidlaw Schultz architectsSave to IdeabookEmail Photo Raise Your Island If it's not so much kids or guests circulating into your kitchen space that bothers you, but more a need to disguise meal-prep messes, try raising the far end of your island. It will give visitors a nice place to perch at while you work at the sink or cooktop, too.
Metal Mesh curtains to hide kitchen mess
The kitchen panels are all on the same side of the house. A fridge, an electric stovetop, a sink, a freezer, a microwave and a dishwasher all fit into this one wall. After meals, everything simply gets tucked back into its hidden panel.
4. Space-Saving Spanish Kitchen Homeowner: Christian Schallert of Barcelona, Spain This cleverly designed 260-square-foot Barcelona apartment functions in different modes — each appliance and piece of furniture tucks into a hidden panel. Panels made of Viroc and wood pop open with a simple push, revealing refrigerators, seating and a bed.
6. Pullout pantry. No room for a proper pantry? A slim pullout one can be tucked into the tightest spaces, and even items way at the back are easily accessible. Put to right of fridge?
5. MacGyver-style island. Instead of lining up everything galley style, try opening up the room and putting all of the necessities in a compact all-in-one island. The custom island shown here contains a sink, a stove, a range, prep space, storage for pots and pans, knives, spices and garbage. As if that weren’t enough, the opposite side has space for a few people to perch on stools.

Pet bowls. Pets are such an important part of many people's lives, and almost 18,000 Houzzers think these built-in dog bowls are a great kitchen feature. To keep your pet from tripping you up while you cook, you can also add a dog or cat bed to your kitchen. Cb adds. Love the fact the tiling in the pet area matches the tiling at the other end,
Best corner storage idea? Pullout shelves. Saved to more than 18,000 ideabooks, this pullout shelf provides easy access to pots and pans. This system works great for reaching those back corners in deep cabinets: The front tray pulls out vertically and allows the back tray to slide over to the right.

10. Spice drawer. This handy spice pullout and cabinet rack design has been saved to almost 39,000 ideabooks so far, mostly because it's so practical. Nathan Cross, president of NWC Construction and contractor of this kitchen, believes that builders should adapt to each individual homeowner instead of creating a one-size-fits-all space. In this instance the client loves to cook, so he ensured that an expansive spice collection was on hand at all times. Consider installing insert drawer inside olive oil cupboard.
Appliance garage. Just about all of us could use a clutter-free countertop, which is why appliance garages are popular. About 58,000 users like this design, which keeps a blender, toaster and mixer nearby but out of sight. Wd be so easy to do at end of counter.
Deep cabinet organizer. This pullout pantry organizer, paired with cabinet door racks, is a favorite for 70,000 users. "Many of our clients don't have room for a walk-in pantry," says Rhoda Fry, CFO at Bill Fry Construction. "Having storage on the doors and inside keeps everything organized and within easy reach." Cb got to figure out how this works and consider for king st pantry.
Pullout trash can. More than 108,000 Houzzers love the simplicity of this pullout trash can. It hides unattractive bins and frees up floor space, while the side nook can house trash bags and ties (or an air freshener). Cb likes the idea of two cans so that recycling can be next to garbage.
Undersink drawer. The deep cabinet under the sink can seem like a bottomless pit, so it isn't surprising that 109,000 readers love this easy solution. The drawer keeps cleaning supplies visible. DIY by purchasing and installing your own chrome sliding organizer. Have to do this. Wd like it with baskets inside that you can remove and carry with you. One for cleaning. One for silver and polish etc.
Cookie sheet drawer. More than 119,000 users agree that this divided drawer is the solution for a range of muffin tins, broiler pans, cooling racks and cookie sheets. If you don't have a drawer to spare, try a narrow pullout near the stove or add wood or metal dividers to the cabinet above your refrigerator.
Corner drawer. Ingenious corner drawers are a creative solution for awkward corners, which is why 129,000 Houzzers saved this photo. The drawers run diagonally into the corner, which makes them deeper than most and therefore lets them pack a bigger storage punch. Cb isn't certain about this. There is another idea later that I think is better for corners.
Utensil drawer. This clever utensil built-in keeps serveware and silverware conveniently in check. Added to more than 132,000 ideabooks, this image is one of the most popular on Houzz. If you want the look but can't afford custom, take the DIY route by placing stainless steel pots in a deep, empty drawer.
My husband and I remodeled our home ourselves. My husband designed my pantry with sliding drawers to hold the cans at just the perfect angle. I love my pantry! This picture doesn't show the slanted inserts in the drawers for the cans. Consider for king st pantry.
10. Mirrored backsplash. Open a small kitchen by using mirror instead of tile as a backsplash behind the sink or range. Just be aware that an antiqued mirror will hide splatters better than a clear version. Put behind coffee maker so window is reflected.
