like the window over the shower. it does add a real different feeling to the usually windowless space.
another part of Austin Maynard's Tower house- ekking out extra space from the over/under/other spaces... ie. on top of the kitchen? also a polished concrete floor... burnished finish. —- the house definitely has a fun approach to life and wants to be entertaining itself. This thing fits well with our lack of seriousness and a sense of silliness. Plus, plyboard!
It's not mudbrick or straw bales but what if we could find a place to include hemp masonry?! Needs formwork like rammed earth, but only needs light tamping. "The Possum Creek house in the Byron hinterland, NSW, uses hemp construction as part of its design for passive thermal performance. Hemp masonry is thermally efficient, controlling heat flowing through the walls and providing good levels of insulation; it’s also breathable, controlling internal humidity, and non-flammable so it can be used in bushfire zones."

Like the simplicity of this kitchen, and well chosen benchtop and great handles. Cabinets are just routed, painted MDF.
We both liked the openness the doors bring and they seemed well built on good tracks. Plus the owners hadn’t noticed the cold coming through the glass so its thickness and UV rating etc must be adequate. Also liked the way you species full height doors to match the height of the stacking doors. Fly screens doors also a good option. We are both tending towards floorboards after seeing this and k owing the cold feel of concrete for much of the year.
We both liked this - it has real storage plus room for books and some of Anna’s collected items to be displayed.
Anna particularly likes the mix of cupboard storage and shelves in Bo Concept’s bookcases.

Sliding window to outdoor seating is an interesting twist. Though I'd be happy with a more typical window seat/bay window.
More Japanese/modernist overtones that I like. Dont know how they get that metal panel colour.
Flat panel, minimalist studio style reminds me of Japanese design (beyond just the bamboo!)
A kitchen layout that coudl work. Partially openable window above sink could face neighbours atrium and green fence. Island bench with seats. Hanging shelves.
Great alternative to the current pavers and mondo grass - could also be a concept for a path joining the studio and house
We would be open to this too as a space saver. We already looking into fold-down beds a few years back. And Anna's parents have one.
That possible shed idea we mentioned.
A nice variation on the idea I mentioned of a room that is half indoors, half outdoors. High windows and a solid ceiling but also open walls.
Perhaps if a sunken living room is not viable (and is too pokey), a split level layout could be? I assume there are thermal qualities that come with this and the higher ceilings it provides could allow for high set windows on the western wall for northern sun that could be shaded in winter? Also just noticed the wall at left with another alternative for storage on a wall (some open shelving, some closed).
This is the 80s breakfast bar look i am not a fan of.
I have worked out the difference between a 1980s 'breakfast bar' and an island that you can sit at to chat with the cook. It's the lack of an overhang! This photo shows how a gap that lets stools be hidden means it can be both a place to sit and usable bench space.
