Reply to: Just to be clear, the above photo of the open appliance shelf complies with the oven manufacturers stated clearance requirements. We took the additional not required step of installing a color matching heat shield under the cabinet above. For those not familiar with a heat shield, it’s a formed metal piece much like a large flat U that covers the cabinet bottom. It creates an air gap between it and the cabinets, so that any heat generated by the oven does not transfer to the cabinets above. I think we had to use 22 gauge metal in order to create enough stiffness for the application, but I no longer recall.

Reply to: Now, I have done it on an open shelf, with plenty of ventilation room around it. We did put a metal heat shield on the cabinet bottom above it, just in case.
