small shingles (can do hardiboard), lighter root, good depth [how can we create that depth? Extension on an upper level garage?]; stonework on the lower half (too expensive- what are other options? Good idea to split up the bottom and top halves, but would a different hardiboard or different color work? maybe trim?)
