A Connecticut Cottage inspired by Carmel, California's artisan cottages. A great deal was done to this house. This small cottage is deceiving from the front, as it looks like a doll's house but it goes quite far back and is built on a hill. There are 3 levels, 3 bedrooms and 3 full bathrooms - one on each floor. The ground floor had a living room, family/dining/kitchen open area, as well as a massive open area/rec room on the lower level. 1500 sq ft approximately. The gardens and property were quite overgrown after being a rental for a decade so needed lots of attention. The entire exterior was repainted, a number of windows replaced, all of the stonework on the foundation walls and exterior chimney brick was resurfaced with rounded 'River Rock' for that 'Carmel' look. Beach pebbles were added to walkways, as were stepping stones, to form pathways around the property. 7 trees were removed and the planting beds revived with pruning and the addition of curved boxwood hedges and flowering bushes, roses to define planting beds. The charming rustic wood artisan gate and fencing were moved and re-fitted with privacy fencing installed to give that 'Secret Garden' effect to the back garden. Inside, the living room mantle was resurfaced with Belgian Bluestone, beadboard and builtins were added. Floors were refinished, the kitchen had a major overhaul with cabinets painted, wood counters removed and replaced with a 'Zebrino' marble which extended to the outside deck for a 'bar' out the new kitchen double casement window. Mother of Pearl backsplash and open shelves were added, as well as an upgrade in appliances. A new upstairs bathroom was added with updates to the two other bathrooms. The house was sold in 2016 and the subsequent owners remodeled with a plan I developed for expanding the top floor over the rear deck to convert the master bedroom, walk in closet to three bedrooms with builtin storage.
