Clients in their late 70s/early 90s needed a much loved kitchen/dining/family room remodeled and adapted for accessibility. The room had very 'orange' stained ceiling beams, trusses and beadboard that felt oppressive as it had darkened over time. The kitchen did not function well as the prior island obstructed the view and conversation. The client wanted a new layout, lighter, modern tones and a feature wall mural. They wanted to keep the candle/vase fixture over the island. The table and much of the furniture was being kept, as was drapery and decor generally. The colours were saturated and the space though large felt cluttered and was starting to date. We updated the sectional sofa with new stuffing and bun feet. Replaced the coffee table with a custom leather ottoman, new large walnut tray, new metal sofa table, baskets, end tables in chrome and weathered wood and new lamps. Painted all walls and trim, skirting etc in Loft White by Little Greene. Recovered window seats and added new accent cushions and 'nautical' throws to enhance clients existing decor. Hung the TV closer and on a swing arm. Updated the chimney breast and kept the brick as is. New wall lights and new shades for windows, reused drapery and curtain poles. Custom area rug with navy border for easy visibility. The tile flooring in kitchen was covered with a new matching laminate for the joint spaces. New dining chairs and counter stools, walnut trays. New light fixture over dining table that was clear glass.
