kitchen worktop - laminate sheet?

We have a small part on the kitchen worktop which got damaged by our tenant, which we want to get repaired. Given it’s a rented property, keen to get away with the cheapest and quickest option. Do you know a handyman who can change the laminate sheet entirely in the kitchen and glue it on worktop? Any recommendations would be v helpful. Thank you so much!

You won’t be able to do that because if the screen is showing it correctly when l try to stretch it, it looks as though it’s not a square edge worktop but a curved one (a pencil profile on the edge). If so you will need to replace the worktop.

Also be aware that buying a sheet of laminate isn’t cheap as they come in huge sheets not simply the size of a standard worktop.

Roughly how much a worktop like this would cost? Some builders are saying best to change everything but we don’t have the budget to replace the entire kitchen when the kitchen cabinets work just fine and have life in them. Any insight would be helpful.

A15) @Dara Cooke: If you can't afford a quartz or granite worktop from day one then I would recommend using a laminate worktop as a temporary solution. If you don't put tiles up as a backsplash then replacing the worktops can be relatively easy in a couple of years.

Hi I recently had a new kitchen fitted and much to my disappointment the fitter used black strips in a number of sections to join the wood. It really looks out of place (black on brown) and really cheapens the kitchen as a result. The company were a professional outfit so I would not have expected this. is there anything I can do at this stage to fit this?

Hi I'm planning a new kitchen as part of a refurb and need some advice on worktops. I have always had a laminate worktop in kitchens before and now have the chance to get a stone worktop which I have always thought would be the obvious choice given the opportunity. However, I've been told that they can be quite noisy with dishes etc, especially in a open plan which is what we will have. Also another person told me she wishes she'd gone with laminate because of you drop a dish on the quartz top it will surely break. ( I hadn't thought of this!) Anyone with experience of laminate and stone in an open plan space who can offer thoughts? Thanks in advance!

mussel kitchen cabinets

hi all, for the kitchen in a new contemporary build, I have narrowed it down to mussel coloured kitchen cabinets -handless matt acrylic (kithenstori.com ) together with white jasmine corian worktop. The floors are planned to be oak laminate and the window frames and doors white. I was wondering does anyone have mussel cabinets and do they have green undertones? What colour island will work well with mussel/jasmine white?

The cost of the worktop depends on what manufacturer and quality you have. There is absolutely no need to replace the cabinets. If you are happy with them, leave them in. We often replace worktops only. You have an electric hob so that’s easy enough to extract and refit (unlike gas where you would need a Gas Safe registered contractor).

l would measure up the length. Some are 3m long, 3.6m long or 4m long so work out what you can get out of each size. For instance if you need 3.9 altogether then perhaps the 4m will work out cheaper in the end because you will only need one worktop although the price individually might be more.

You may get wall tile damage so be prepared for this when the old worktops are taken out. It’s avoidable.

Get some local kitchen company prices.

Thank you so much! You have been extremely helpful. Can you name a few local companies I can approach in London who do fitting as well. For our own place, we went with someone bespoke but this job needs to be cheap and chirpy. Thank you.

Sorry can’t help with recommendations as we are in Staffordshire. Perhaps search out some local ones using Google or ask on a local Facebook forum.
