Flooring should always go first to eliminate issues with appliance heights, and for the potential for changing your mind later about the layout. Some people place plywood of the equivalent height as the finished floor under the cabinets in order to not have the appliance height issue, but that actually makes the flooring person's job harder. What you save in flooring square footage that would otherwise be under the cabinets is probably paid out in labor for the increase in difficulty.

Hi Louise, Lovely new kitchen, such a lovely bright space too. I would suggest going a couple of shades darker than the kitchen furniture colour so you get a contrast to the furniture and flooring. This will help keep it on a neutral palette so your other furniture and accessories are not competing with too many colours. Also as your room as so much natural light you can go for a slightly stronger wall colour and it will look superb. the photo below shows a very cool grey wall you could go for a warmer grey but it give you an idea of what you could do. Painting the walls can always be changed relatively easily, so if you want a change after a few years you can and it's a lot less costly than a new kitchen! It is fair comment on not so pretty tiles and unfortunately you can't do much with the floor here because it covers too large area. On a picture you can see only lounge area, which is actually part of the kitchen. Tiles cover floor in the kitchen, lounge area and dining room. Extra large rug wouldn't make it better. This project has two tough points: tight budget and timing.

Hi Divechick, No i love the layout, the kitchen is a good layout for using the dishwasher, fridge and cooker all close by., We have our plates and bowls in drawers which i love too.One thing we do need is more storage though. We are looking at knocking through to next room next year so the whole room will be wider and incorporate a utility. I think i will keep the general kitchen layout the same though but add more presses!
