Laundry Room needs help
Hi, need some help with this laundry room. Its very narrow and I need a place for folding laundry and I like to hang my clean laundry on hangers so need a space for that.
The dimension of the room is 10'long x 5'wide and it narrow to 4'foot by the door.
Any suggestions would be appreciated thanks

5 years agoDo you use the two cabinets above your machines? My first thought was replace the cabinet above the washer with a clothes rod for hanging clothes. You can get a folding table installed on the wall (example below) where the ironing board is right now if you want a flat surface but think twice about your clothes folding reality. (I have front loaders and installed an inexpensive counter on top for folding space. Turns out, it's a bit high for me and I prefer to fold clothes and linens on the bed. :P) I imagine the ironing board is usually hung on the gizmo holding the iron?

Comments (9)Thanks, I wasn't sure where the 9'4 measurement came in. If you're buying all new furniture then look for items on legs, as you can see the floor beneath it will make the space feel bigger. You can also use glass ie a glass coffee table or Louis ghost chairs for example. I'd also go for a large mirror over the hearth or not knowing your style could also have a ŵall of glass tiles for the same effect which will also bounce light. I'd go for a pale tone sofa and use warmer/darker colours for cushions if wanted. If you want a rug then I'd keep it in the same tone as the floor else to visually maximise floor space. I've drawn a very rough plan (not entirely to scale and obviously not knowing where doors etc are!). I assume you're wanting to buy furniture before you move in? If so do you have a similar size room where you could cut out paper templates of all furniture to see if the space works? I would mount the tv on the ŵall if you have one. Hanging it over a slim console (or slim cabinet for storage) means you can add art on the ŵall and accessorise the console so the tv doesn't become the feature of the ŵall. You could go for a coffee table or a small footstool which can double up as extra seating and table. I'd go for a round dining table, 3ft will seat 4 and you can pull it away from the corner when entertaining. i'd go for a 2 seater sofa (c5f?) but try and get a slim one. I don't know the size of the windows but blinds, shutters may also be an idea so curtains don't encroach on the floor space? Comments (2)I think the only place you could put a tv is probably the corner by the window...over the fireplace is probably too high. a walnut floor and new fresher paint colour would be lovely, would you consider painting the skirting boards and fireplace white or off white to modernise them a bit? we've painted the skirting in our living room (also a walnut floor) and it looks so much better than before. Comments (0)Hi all, I bought my first home (Yay!) and I was wondering how you would design the following living/dining room. I have attached the measures as the pictures are from the original add and might look more spacious than it really is. The living room kinda has to happen where the fireplace is, which is also where you enter the room from the hall, but I am struggling to fit a couch in there that you don’t fall over. I’m thinking of moving the dining area to the black wall now and the couch to the other end of the room which is also the west and garden facing side. But then I’d lose the lovely fire place. 5 years agolast modified: 5 years agoIf you can squeeze in a skinny cabinet to hold a drop down ironing board, you can use it for your folding area. Using the Marie Konde folding method should make it a snap and increase your clothing storage space tremendously.

What about putting a rolling cart in there for folding clothes. You can use some of it for supplies.

I have a very similar size laundry room. We changed the door to long panel swinging doors to not congest the space in the room. Although I have front loaders I use the Dryer to put folded clothes on, along with a clothes basket to stack clothes in and carry out to put away. The hanging rod pictured I got on Amazon and absolutely are a space saver. I have 2 of these in there. I think you can easily mount these on the wall left of the dryer. I agree with other comments, to store your iron in the cabinet. Not sure what is sitting against the wall left of dryer, but looks like you could put your ironing board there when not using it.
Also, consider mounting a hanger for your broom, vacuum and tools, etc. located left of the door so hidden from view.

On dryer’s wall side, add something like below add you could place a framed poster over the hole/pipes (that can be easily taken down for access)
If you prefer, idea below and would have to be on dryer’s side with drying rack opposite
I‘m sure you would also like the space to be more fun and consider an update - combination below would compliment your floor. Could go cream on walls and blue on cupboards

We just installed an Ikea TJUSIG hat rack in our laundry room yesterday next to the ironing board. It is multifunctional with hanging rods, hooks and a shelf.

. When you want to fold clothes, fold the table down. When the table is not in use & is flat on the wall, the underside of the table could be painted to suit your artistic taste.
ironing board: I have a similar caddy on the back of our door. It‘s convenient to store the ironing board out of the way.elaine thanked rpwoodard 
5 years agoLook at adjustable wire shelving racks -often called metro shelving - there are literally dozens of brands and combinations of height, depth and width. Consider 72" tall and 18 or 24 " deep by whatever width you feel would be comfortable. If on casters, you can roll it out of the way as needed for cleaning. Your preferred product might come with 5 shelves in the tallest size, but you don't have to install all of them; one shelf may go unused in order to give you a wide gap between a folding shelf and hanging space on the top. My daughter found this to be a great solution for her cramped laundry room. As an example:
