Trex vs deckorators
Hi - building a house and initially had thought about getting trex decking. The builder just present deckorators as an option. Any preferences here on which is better and why? Thanks so much!!!

Hi, just came across this. We were looking at Trex at first. Went to a lumber yard nearby today and found out they stopped carrying Trex. They carry most of the other brands like Deckorator. I asked why not Trex. Said they stopped because they kept getting complaints from contractors about poor customer service at Trex. Said they got tired of having to justify the line so just stopped carrying it. Said most brands are very similar so go with the color you want and the company who will be there if you need them.

Been installing nothing but Trex since the Transcend line came out, never any issues and it holds up great after many years... Seen a few jobs that we did 10+ years ago, everything looks just as good as it did then and customers couldn't be happier.
As service goes, I guess that would depend on the area or who you dealing with, around here the service is excellent from the lumber yard and the Trex district Rep, anything you need he is right on top of it and if needed on the Jobsite he is right out.

Read the warranty closely, especially this - 'Staining associated with mold or mildew that is not properly cleaned within one week of first appearance is not covered under this Warranty. If stains persist, you will be required to produce documentation that you attempted to have the deck professionally cleaned at least one time prior to making a claim under this Warranty.' This makes their warranty basically useless as far as I'm concerned. Who doesn't regularly get mold or mildew? I'm supposed to race out every time some appears and clean it within a week? Seems like an unrealistic expectation meant to allow them to void any warranty claims.

HU-248906324 was quoting from the Trex warranty. But looking at the Deckorators' warranty, it's even worse -- you have to clean up any spills within 2 days (vs 7 on Trex) and regarding the mold/mildew coverage they say "Mold and mildew can settle and grow on any outdoor surface and, if not properly cleaned, can stain that surface. Staining associated with mold or mildew is not covered under this Warranty. If stains persist, you will be required to produce documentation that you attempted to have the deck professionally cleaned at least one time prior to making a claim under this Warranty." So stains due to mold/mildew aren't covered at all (even though it then says you have to professionally clean it after such a stain so I don't know why it says both). Both warranties are essentially the same here, with Trex being at least a little better given the 1 week thing and the fact that they don't disclaim all warranty due to mold/mildew.
