Hosta B 2014

1. Before Mt. Everest was discovered, what was the highest mountain in the world?

2. There is a clerk at the butcher shop, he is five feet ten inches tall, and he wears size 13 sneakers. What does he weigh?

3. If you were running a race, and you passed the person in 2nd place, what place would you be in now?

Bedazzle us with your Bs:

Beckoning. If you do not have one put Beckoning on your list right now. A color changer throughout the season. 'Top Hosta 2014' in my yard this year. A must have.

Great pics on this page. I'll try to add something of interest.

Here's what Beckoning looks like in May. The variegation tends to increase during the season.

Loving your pic of Big Sam, Steve. I just looked at it in the hosta library. Looks like a huge one. I should get it, shouldn't I?

My Big Daddy, 5 years old. Every year it seems to have less cupping and corrugation. It looks more like Jans than the others. In the Hosta Library there seems to be quite a difference from one to another.???

    Hi peren.all,

Nice to meet a close hosta enthusiast. Do you live in the Ottawa area?

I'm sort of hoping MY 'Blue Shadows' isn't 'Inniswood' as I bought two this past fall. It would be nice if it were something I don't think I already have. Anyhow, if it's not 'Bright Lights' I'll start a new thread for an ID as soon as I take a picture of it in bloom next hosta season.

Old Dirt, that's a really good-looking Brim Cup. I understand it's hard to grow well. Mine suffered terribly from draw-string this year.

newhostalady, that's a cute Blue Mouse Ears, and you took a perfect photo of it. That's a good reminder to get outside and take advantage of any overcast day.

    Thanks sandyslopes.

The two Brim Cup hostas pictured are doing great. I can't say the same for mine.

Here is my second year Blue Cadet. I love seeing everyone's photos of young hostas, mature hostas and everything in between!

I've reread the introductory chapter and the general index to Mark Zilis' Hostapedia and found no references at all to FLORENCE SHAW but did find some glowing references to Paul Aden, who gave no credit to Florence Shaw for hostas she created. It's great that the American Hosta Society is attempting to right this wrong. The list of cultivars, whose origins came into doubt, showed me that BLUE ANGEL is with almost 100% certainty her creation. This is my personal attempt to recognize her. I hope that others will join me in mentioning her name when you post pictures of her creations.

I've noticed that when I google hosta cultivars for info, GardenWeb threads invariably come up.

Edit: I checked the hosta registry at the AHS website and found out that the registration for Blue Angel has been corrected/changed to reflect Florence Shaw's contribution.

Irawon, with that suggestion, I decided to post my Birchwood Parky's Gold, although many have been posted. It was registered by Florence Shaw.
