South County Dublin

Blending Character with a contemporary twist

The property was a beautiful Edwardian residence located in South County Dublin Our clients were a wonderful family who have a passion for Irish art and wanted to maintain a balance between keeping the house’s character intact whilst adding a contemporary twist to their home. With young children and busy lives, storage was a key consideration throughout our planning and design process.

The kitchen was the starting point from which the ground floor was drawn out. As well as detailing exacting joinery for every required element within the main units, we also designed sleek glass fronted cabinetry within the small staircase and main entry point to the kitchen. The units were counterbalanced by the use of fluted wood on the opposing wall, adding interest and texture against the wonderfully rich ‘Studio Green’ finish on the units. In the dining space we created bespoke storage and display units adjacent to the seating area where the family could display books, photographs and objet d’arts, blending personality and practicality. The soft neutral tone of the joinery works as a perfect backdrop to the punchy leather of the Gubi Beetle chairs and ensures that the original Irish artwork, a sublime mix of marine blue tones, is the real star of the show.

The mix of materials and shapes was carefully considered during the project and we collaborated closely with DMVF architects who led the structural restoration of the building, to create an aligned design aesthetic throughout. We ran the concept through to the final dressing where accessories included Irish antiques and timeless natural pieces alongside more modern linear items. The result was an elegant family home that's both practical, stylish and comfortable.
