The renovation of this mid-century house in the San Francisco Bay Area began with the elimination of all interior walls, allowing uninterrupted physical and visual circulation. Solid walls were replaced by steel beams, permitting natural light to flow from front to back and side to side of the house.
The material palette is kept simple - the kitchen has green slate countertops with a combination of low and highly figured anigre cabinets. The low pantry opposite the sink doubles as a stair guard rail, and all materials are sustainable. The fireplace is faced with integrally colored plaster.
